Eco-friendly packaging Solutions

Proposing more eco-friendly packaging solutions which do not compromise on design and availability but also performance, as well as complying with the newest EU regulations is the main goal for Pont. It has led us to change our range to having the largest range of sustainable packaging to offer. Whether it is recycled PET, recycled PE or biobased PE, Pont is offering you the opportunity to get the sustainable version of your actual petrol-based packaging. And of course, since the start of Pont in 1906, glass products remain amongst the best alternatives being almost endlessly recyclable, from food jars to sirop bottles we have a solution for all your packaging needs.

R-PET

From the classic Alpha Sirop bottle to the widely used Petpacker, the range of packaging in recycled PET available at Pont has been widely extended. R-PET material (transparent) is currently the only recycled material that has food approval. This material is made from recycled bottles from the current disposal and return systems in Europe.
The availability of food-grade R-PET material is somewhat limited and could result in material shortages in the future. To make sure that R-PET stays in the loop of recycling, the EU is implementing new regulations on disposal and return systems and minimal recycled content in plastic packaging.
The colour of recycled PET is not completely clear in comparison with virgin PET, this is caused by labels, and caps that are integrated in the recycling process. Therefore the colour of recycled PET containers can vary from one batch to another. We’d be happy to advise on the best design options for recycling.

R-PE

Sturdy, versatile and offering a wide range of applications, recycled PE is a great alternative to virgin PE material. Unfortunately only for non-food related use as R-PE is not available (yet) with food grade certification. A big advantage is that the colour does not affect the recyclability, as long as the colour is detectable. Consider using lighter colours, as dark shades can affect a discolouration of the recyclate.
Currently, the colours containing carbon black pigment (black but e.g. also dark coloured blue or green) are not detectable at the recycling companies and as a consequence these items are not recycled. As an alternative to carbon black pigment, we can produce our items with carbon black free pigments (CBF), in this way the items can be recycled and are more sustainable.

R-PE can also vary in colour from one batch to another.

BIOBASED PE

An eco-friendly option as it is entirely recyclable within the actual sorting/recycling process and it comes from renewable resources (waste of sugarcane production) which do not affect food production. Bio-based PE offers great performance and is ideal when used with a hinge guard cap without liner. Pont can offer a wide variety of packaging solutions in this material. New production sites are being built to increase the overall availability of this raw material in the coming years.

Glass

The original recyclable material, glass! Produced from sand, a renewable source, and already made from recycled glass. During the production of glass a percentage of recycled glass is used. Glass is a material which can be recycled almost endlessly and the recycling process requires less energy than producing virgin glass.
A master choice if it works for your products!

Light weight versions in PE/PET

Weight reduction of a product is a possible option to reduce the amount of plastic used in your packaging and therefore, reduce the environmental impact. A balance must be achieved to retain the properties and resilience of the packaging. Particularly important for products running on an automatic closing line so that the force of the torque does not damage the cap or container, Pont can assist with the trialing process.
