What does oxo-degradable plastic mean?
Conventional plastics mixed with additives to mimic degradation. The material will turn into small particles under the influence of oxygen, this process is accelerated by UV light and / or heat. The particles, called microplastic, won’t biodegrade, will remain in and are harmful for the environment. This is why the European Commission has decided to ban the use of oxo-degradable plastics in the next years, but it’s not yet decided when.
